A Day in the Life of Our Family Support Coordinator, Amanda Wood

If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at Home-Start, let us introduce you to Amanda, one of our amazing Family Activities Coordinators who’s been with us since 2022. No two days are ever the same for Amanda, but one thing’s for sure, she’s always on the go, making sure families feel supported, connected, and cared for.

Amanda wears many hats in her role. A big part of her day involves working directly with families, from initial visits right through to reviews and matching them with the right volunteer. It’s all about finding the best fit, someone they can build a real relationship with. Once that match is made, Amanda is there every step of the way, offering regular check-ins and support to both families and volunteers.

She’s also hands-on with our volunteer training. Not only does she support new recruits, but she also helps deliver sessions too, sharing her experience and insight to help prepare them for the journey ahead.

When she’s not coordinating matches, you’ll likely find her out in the fresh air running one of our favourite groups, The Puddle Project. These outdoor sessions bring families together in nature, offering a space to play, connect, and simply be. Amanda works closely with Louise to make sure everything runs smoothly from arranging the bus, to making sure our volunteers, chaperones, and drivers are all in place.

She’s also recently started delivering PEEP sessions alongside Alexis. They both did training and are now bringing fresh energy and direction to the groups, supporting parents and carers in their little ones’ early learning journeys.

Amanda’s days don’t stop there, she proudly represents Home-Start on Warrington’s Autism Strategy Board. As a neurodivergent woman herself, she says being part of an organisation that truly values inclusion and creates space for everyone to feel seen and heard means the world.

In Amanda’s words, “I feel very proud and feel very honoured to be in an organisation that embraces me and near-divergent people and allows us to be seen and heard.”

So next time you see a happy, muddy child at a Puddle session or a volunteer stepping up to support a local family, there’s a good chance Amanda’s played a part in making it happen.

We’re so proud to have Amanda as part of the Home-Start Warrington and Cheshire family, her passion, warmth and dedication shine through in everything she does, and we’re lucky to have her on the team.
