Dad Matters at Home-Start Warrington & Cheshire

At Home-Start Warrington & Cheshire, we’re here to support families and that includes the often-overlooked role of dads. Through our Dad Matters programme, we want to help dads get the support they need, especially when it comes to their mental health, relationships and being there for their children.

Why Dads Matter

Dads play a vital role in their children’s early development. Their involvement can make a huge difference, yet many services have traditionally focused on mums, leaving dads feeling excluded. Our Dad Matters programme is here to change that. We’re working to engage dads with services traditionally aimed at mums, helping them connect with the support they need, whether it’s mental health resources, parenting skills or simply someone to talk to.

Supporting Dads with Mental Health

Mental health challenges, stress and anxiety are common among dads, but many feel unsure where to turn for support. Our goal is to make sure dads know that it’s okay to ask for help and that resources are available. By supporting dads’ mental health and wellbeing, we’re helping to create stronger families. When dads feel supported, the entire family thrives.

Engaging Dads with Services

We don’t just offer support, we’re actively working to increase dads’ access to services and raise awareness across the sector. By partnering with services that support dads, families, and babies, we’re making sure dads know what’s available to them. We also train and support volunteer dads to help build a community where fathers can connect, share experiences, and support one another.

Meet Our New Coordinators

We’re excited to welcome two new members to our team. Tom Byrne is our new Halton Coordinator, and he’s eager to develop support for dads in the area.

“It’s fantastic to be a part of the Dad Matters team, and I am very much looking forward to developing support for Dads in and around Halton.”

We’re also welcoming Nathan Fernyhough as our Warrington Coordinator. As a dad of three, Nathan understands the challenges fathers face.

“I am a dad of 3 and am really pleased to be joining the Dad Matters team and supporting Dads in Warrington and Cheshire.”

With Tom and Nathan on board, we can’t wait to offer more support to dads and help even more families thrive.

Why Dads’ Support is Important

When dads get the support they need, families are stronger. It’s not just about getting help during tough times, it’s about boosting confidence, building stronger relationships and supporting mental health, all of which help their children grow and develop.

Through Dad Matters, we make sure dads know their importance, how to access the support they need, and why their involvement is key to their child’s growth. Together, we can make a lasting impact for dads, families, and children across Warrington and Cheshire.

If you’re a dad in need of support or know someone who is, reach out – we’re here to help!
